“I
believe Minnesotans embrace a common value: to ensure every family has the
opportunity to live in a safe neighborhood, and every individual has access to a
living wage job, quality education and affordable health care.”

CITY
PAGES NAMES BECKY LOUREY
Best Politician of 2007 |
Even
though Becky Lourey is no longer in office,
City Pages still considers her the best
politician. Her integrity and commitment to
good policy made her the hands down choice for
this coveted award!

WONDER
WHAT BECKY IS UP TO THESE DAYS? |
Officially,
Becky Lourey returned to an active role at
Nemadji Research, the business that she and
her husband Gene created and own. But you know Becky...a
regular 10 hour a day job is not quite enough
for her!
Becky
has been seen all around the State of
Minnesota giving speeches about peace, women
in politics, and even "defining
happiness".

EYES
WIDE OPEN
March
19, 2007
Minnesota State Capitol Rotunda
|
|
The American Friends
Service Committee, a Quaker organization that
includes people of various faiths who are
committed to social justice, peace and
humanitarian service, a group that believes in
the worth of every person and faith, and in
the power of love to overcome violence and
injustice, has brought to us today this
powerful exhibit.
Each pair of boots honors a military
casualty.
When I first attended
this exhibition at St. Kates, I thought I
wouldn’t be able to look at the boots
representing Matt.
But with loving, Catholic sisters of
faith giving me strength, I walked over to the
boots representing Minnesotans.
I stood by Matt’s pair of boots – I
could see Matt standing there.
I bent down and rearranged the boots,
heels touching, toes pointed out, just as Matt
stood. It
was important to me.
I returned twice, and saw that no one
had reset the boots side by side, but left
them just as Matt stood.
But how does this help us solve our conflicts
differently?
And how does sorrow at our own losses
help us to understand the losses of others, to
find that empathy which I have come to believe
is one of the most important elements of a
cohesive society and a possible peaceful
world.

Dear Friend,
With
our mutual desire to make
Minnesota
better, we share so much.
We care about equal opportunity, social
justice, the environment and reducing our
reliance on foreign oil.
During
my run for Governor, we championed these
issues and campaigned hard in every corner of
the state.
It takes a very special donor to
recognize the value in helping a campaign that
falls short of electoral victory, but still
has accomplished so much in raising the
public’s consciousness.
It is my hope today that I can count on
your financial support to help retire my
campaign debt as soon as possible.
From
the endorsing convention to the primary, this
campaign was focused on the key issues facing
the people of our state. We wrote
in-depth issue papers -- a blueprint for
achieving the goals we share. Then we
put our ideas on our website for all to
examine, evaluate, embrace, and elicit
response.
We will keep the website operational,
and continue to advocate for the issues we
hold dear.
I believe that this effort has helped
Minnesotans understand the challenges we face
and what can be accomplished. I know it
has given many people hope.
Throughout
this fall I will be campaigning on behalf of
the excellent candidates who have gained the
primary nomination, and at the same time I
will be working to retire the campaign debt. It
is my hope that you can afford to help me
eliminate that burden.
Thank
you for your prompt consideration and any
assistance you can offer.
I am grateful and appreciative of your
support.
Sincerely,

Becky Lourey
P.S. Remember,
your campaign contribution today is eligible
for full Minnesota Political Campaign Refund
(up to $50 single, $100 married yearly).

| On the fifth anniversary of the
terrorist attacks, the Saint Paul Pioneer Press commented on remembering 9/ll and paid
tribute to Becky Lourey as an example of an
officeholder from whom the public should take
heart:
We
elect people to deal with what may come
“…We
in
Minnesota
will
also remember 9/11 this election season.
Whether
the war in
Iraq
will
prevent further attacks or divert our
resources and stir up more hatred of the
U.S.
is a
dead-serious election issue for us. A
Democratic candidate for governor in Tuesday's
primary, state Sen. Becky Lourey, lost a son
to the war against terror. Army Chief Warrant
Officer Matthew Lourey, 40, died when his
helicopter was shot down in
Iraq
last
year.
Sen.
Lourey upheld the highest and deepest meaning
of the 9/11 remembrance when she cast the only
vote in the
Minnesota
Senate
this year against a bill to restrict
demonstrations at military funerals. Next to
her, the flag-waving politicians looked pretty
small…” |
